MINISTER OF ELECTRICITY AND ENERGY LEADS HIGH-LEVEL INVESTMENT MISSION TO CHINA TO UNLOCK ENERGY INFRASTRUCTURE INVESTMENT
The Minister of Electricity and Energy, Dr. Kgosientsho Ramokgopa, will lead a high- level South African delegation to Beijing, People’s Republic of China, from 03 to 06 August 2026, for the South Africa–China Electricity and Energy Investment Conference.
This strategic mission marks a pivotal shift in the implementation of South Africa’s energy transition. As the country executes its Integrated Resource Plan (IRP) 2025, which requires an investment pipeline exceeding R2.2 trillion, the mission serves as an investment-enabling platform designed to align Chinese industrial capability and financing with our national infrastructure priorities.
Minister Ramokgopa is supported by a formidable delegation, reflecting a unified national effort to drive energy security and industrialization. The delegation includes the Minister of Trade Industry and Competition, Mr Parks Tau, Deputy Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Ms Thandi Moraka, the Premiers of Limpopo, Dr. Phophi Ramathuba, Western Cape, Mr Alan Winde, Eastern Cape, Mr Oscar Mabuyane and the Northern Cape, represented by MEC for Finance, Economic Development and Tourism, Ms Venus Blennies Magage ensuring provincial alignment on energy projects.
They are joined by senior executives from key energy entities, a robust business delegation, and leadership from major development finance institutions.
This mission is a targeted intervention to secure the partnerships necessary to modernize our grid and expand our generation capacity in line with the IRP 2025 and the Transmission Development Plan TDP) by bringing together provincial leadership, financial institutions, and industry experts, this mission will present a credible, execution-ready pipeline to Chinese counterparts for tangible outcomes.
This mission is a cornerstone of South Africa’s infrastructure-led inclusive growth strategy, positioning the electricity sector as the primary driver for economic recovery and industrial capability expansion.
