MINISTER OF ELECTRICITY AND ENERGY DR KGOSIENTSHO RAMOKGOPA TO PARTICIPATE IN SOD TURNING FOR EKURHULENI’S FIRST 25MW SOLAR PV PLANT
Minister of Electricity and Energy Dr Kgosientsho Ramokgopa, will tomorrow, 22 October 2026, join the City of Ekurhuleni Executive Mayor Alderman Nkosindiphile Xhakaza, in a sod-turning ceremony marking the start of construction of the Ekurhuleni Fresh Produce Market 25MW Solar PV and sustainable energy-storage project under the Ekurhuleni Independent Power Producer Programme (EIPPP).
The project follows the Minister’s announcement on Monday, of the biggest Ministerial Section 34 Determination, enabling the metro to procure 2400 MW of new generation capacity from independent power producers (IPPs). This SOD turning demonstrates the pace at which government is transitioning from planning to implementation and represents a significant milestone in municipal energy procurement.
